Recommend Books For Gifted Teachers

As school starts, what reading materials would you offer every new gifted teacher out there?

I’ll share a few of my choices:

Leave your favorite titles in the comments. They don’t have to be explicitly about gifted instruction. Consider fiction, parenting, general teaching, and so on. Outside the box is great. I’ll tally your suggestions and post the results.

Going on the theory that some teachers don't always effectively teach gifted kids due to "administrative pressures". i.e. the system doesn't ALLOW them to teach the way they know they should - I'd recommend:
"Orbiting the Giant Hairball: A Corporate Fool's Guide to Surviving with Grace" by Gordon MacKenzie
  • A Nation Deceived, When Gifted Kids Don't Have All the Answers..Um...all my books are packed up to move to a new house. Seriously remind me in two weeks...
  • If you only have 1 on your shelf, it should be Winebrenner's Teaching Gifted Kids... I'd add Differentiation: Simplified, Realistic, and Effective by Bertie Kingore for instructional techniques. I'd add Smart Talk or More Than a Test Score (depending on the age of students you teach) by Robert Schultz and James Deslisle for really "getting" the kids' perspectives.

How about "Genius Denied" or "A Nation Deceived"?
