The Differentiator!

After writing an earlier article about differentiating objectives for gifted learners, I decided to create a system that would help me keep track of all my options.

And so, The Differentiator was born!

Here’s a video to demonstrate what it does. It’s only been tested on my laptop, so please leave me feedback in the comments or on Twitter.

I absolutely love this resource. I was making these kinds of tasks by hand and it was hard for me to stick with it. Using this resource, I was able to design six tasks for my current unit in just a few minutes. This is really a gem. Thank You!

When I click on the Differentiater Link, it brings me to an unknown link. Was it moved?

What a great way to plan a lesson. I'm going to recommend this to my faculty.
  • Ian - Love the Differentiator! Great work. I wanted to let you know that I sent out a link to the Differentiator yesterday to over 10,000 South Carolina teachers that use the Teacher Toolbox. Thanks again!

You are so clever, and you have created something that helps solve my problem, which is, that it is sort of mind-boggling to use all you know to make decent lesson plans. Is your differentiator available for sharing or for sale?
  • Thanks! Glad it's helping :) The Differentiator is free to use at http://www.byrdseed.com/differentiator. There is a paid version that creates printable menus at http://www.extendamenu.com.
  • Thank you for the comments :) I'm so glad that this will be useful for teachers out there! I'm going to try to incorporate a way to add multiple resources.

Fantastic! What a great way of visualizing different approaches to a lesson - or re-imagining new approaches to lessons that we'd like to shake up a bit. Thanks so much for this.

What a great idea! Very clear and easy to use. The only suggestion I have is to be able to use more than one resource--I like my kids to use offline and online resources.

This is an awesome idea. I can also see this being used by new teachers who have a hard time separating a student-friendly objective from standards within the lesson. I have been playing with this and truly love it! Thank you so much for taking the time to create this! Once I get back to my classroom, it will be bookmarked onto my FF browser tool bar!
