I’ve written about podcasts in the past. They’ve my absolute favorite way to learn. Every week I look forward to new episodes from classics like the BBC’s In Our Time, David and Katie’s Mac Power Users, and Josh and Chuck’s Stuff You Should Know.
Three recent favorites include:
- Song Exploder: a brief podcast interviewing musicians who explain how a song was recorded. I love hearing individual tracks isolated! I also love how every musician eventually explains how their song is an homage to another artist they’re in love with. The initial episode featuring The Postal Service is great.
- Disney Story Origins: You may not know this, but I’m a bit of a Disney fan (heck, I even proposed at Disneyland). This podcast digs deep into the differences between Disney fairy tales and the originals. I guarantee you’ll learn something here. The two-part Aladdin episode is blowing my mind so far!
- 99% Invisible: A wonderful podcast about seemingly random, but always interesting topics. Some of my favorites themes have included: baseball uniforms, the nearly disastrous Citicorp Center building, and barcodes.
I’ve also recently started using Castro as my podcasting app of choice on the iPhone. Previously, I’d been a Downcast fan, but am now loving the clean, simple design of Castro.
