This is closed now, and winners have been notified, but we’ll return later in the year with another opportunity.
Back in December 2020, the Byrd family gave to about 50 teachers via wishlists and DonorsChoose campaigns. We’d like to do something similar for Spring 2021, but this time we want to encourage bigger thinking.
If you had $100 to $500, how would you use it for your students?
Here’s what we’re looking for, in the form of ✅ examples and ❌ non-examples:
- Interesting and bold ideas:
- ✅ Subscribe to an online film-making course for my students.
- ✅ Enroll three students in our local Space Camp.
- ✅ Order prints of the 20 most-famous works of art for our classroom.
- ❌ I’d buy some paper.
- Something you’ve already started in some way:
- ✅ An in-progress DonorsChoose campaign with even $1 already pledged
- ✅ A family math night you used to put on but ran out of funds for.
- ✅ Your PTA was only able to raise half of the amount.
- ❌ An Amazon wishlist that hasn’t been updated in years
In short, we’d like to help folks who have hit a financial stumbling block on their route to an awesome idea.

Mary and I plan to be back at the end of Summer with another, slightly different, opportunity.
