I think this is an interesting way to practice our students’ divergent thinking skills. What else could this trash can’s icon represent…

  • throwing away a snowman?
  • levitating balls out of a can?
  • giving up punctuation?

I’m sure your students could come up with dozens of non-standard interpretations of this image. What a great morning brain-warmup!

This is an example of “Fuzzy Problems”

Fuzzy problems are ambiguous. They are missing data. They have lots of right answers, but (more importantly) they also have wrong answers.
